A piece of Berlin architectural history the 100-year industrial past of Möckernstrasse 120 begins in 1909. The owners Benno Orenstein and Arthur Koppel decide to move their company to Berlin Kreuzberg. The architectural firm Cremer& Wolffenstein is commissioned to design the new headquarters on Tempelhofer Ufer. Meanwhile, Orenstein& Koppel grows to become a stock corporation, has 15,000 employees in 1912 and eight international branches. In the twenties, the manufacturer of rail vehicles covered almost the same area as today's Gleisdreieckpark. In 1932, however, the company was gradually expropriated, and in 1935 it emigrated. By the end of the 1980s, the era of Orenstein & Koppel was over. What remains is the unadulterated factory ambience: On the outside, the unmistakable Berlin clinker brick; on the inside, cast-iron stair railings with oak handrails whose long life story can be seen and felt, with rooms that look like ballrooms and load-bearing, riveted steel columns. In short: a landmarked industrial gem that has been purely refurbished and offers pure, authentic loft living with comprehensive and at the same time careful modernizations.
